Meine Frau macht ein Qi Gong Kurs und ich begleite Sie nach Ulm bzw. nach Senden. Ich habe 5 h Zeit für einen Teil des oberschwäbischen Barocks. Es ist Sonntag und ich unterschätze erst einmal, dass überall noch Kirchgang ist und eine Besichtigung von barocken Kirchen während eines Gottesdienstes nicht so gut ankommt. Also sehe ich von der ersten Station in Roggenburg nur die Außenseite. Inn riecht es sehr nach Weihrauch und man merkt, dass im bayrischen der Katholizismus noch viel mehr verwurzelt ist als anders wo. Italien und Spanien nehme ich jetzt mal aus, da ist das manchenortens ähnlich.
Roggenburg ist ein Prämonstratenser Kloster. Die weissen Herren sind Chorherren und keine Mönche. Das heisst eigentlich sind es Priester die sich in eine Orden zusammengeschlossen haben. Na ja, also doch ein Kloster eben. Roggenburg ist eine schöne Anlage, super gut gepflegt und sehr ansehnlich. Die Kirche ist hochbarock und sehr schön geschmückt. Leider war ich nicht richtig drin wie ober schon erwähnt.

Über Babenhausen mit einer kleinen barocken Kirche geht es nach Buxheim. Dort gibt es eine Kartause mit barocken Schmuck. Buxheim war ein Kloster der Kartäuser. Die lebten als Einsiedler oder Eremiten. Meistens innerhalb von Häuschen innerhalb der Kreuzganges. Deshalb ist der Kreuzgang in einem Kartäuserkloster in der Regel auch viel größer als anderswo. So auch in Buxheim. Innen ist es sehr schön in Schuss, gerade frisch saniert.

Memmingen, dass recht übersichtlich ist mit ein paar schönen Sträßchen, Häuschen und dem Marktplatz, bietet auch einige nicht sakrale interessante Bauten, wie z.B. das Rathaus. Das ist aber nicht barock sondern aus der Renaissance, also ein paar Tage älter. Das Städtchen kommt einen sogar noch in wenig mitteralterlich vor, mit seinen Gässchen und engen Strassen. Wahrscheinlich stammt auch noch aus dieser Zeit der Stadtgrundriss.

Von Memmingen geht es nach Ottobeuren. Zwischendurch werde ich noch ins Benninger Ried und zu einer Kapelle dort drin gelotst. Sehr schön klein. Das Ried ist so wie man ein Ried sich vorstellt. Es quaken Frösche, wilde Pflanzen, Moor usw.

Ottobeuren. Auch so ein Inbegriff von Spätbarock. Die Kirche als Teil des Benediktinerkosters ist einfach in einer ganz anderen Dimension als die sonstigen Kirchen in der Gegend. Alles ist riesig und man fragt sich für was hier auf dem platten Land so ein Monstrum steht. Die Kirche steht auch noch vollkommen frei an drei Seiten auf einer Wiese. Drinnen ist man von der schieren Größe und den irren Malereien ganz erschlagen. Ich finde gar keinen Anküpfungspunkt, da alles unübersichtlich und übervoll ist. Es gibt natürlich auch eine Brauerei und viele Lokale, die den Pilgern aussreichend Speis und Trank geben müssen.

Eigentlich würde ich auch weiter so durch die Lande tingeln, aber die Zeit schreitet doch schneller fort als gedacht. So fahre ich anders als mein Plan, nach Bad Waldsee, laufe ein wenig durch die Stadt und schlecke ein Eis. Hier ist es wie auch in den meisten Bädern der Gegend am Sonntag richtig touristisch. Die ganze family besucht am Sonntag die Oma oder den Opa, die hier in Kur ist und man geht spazieren, trinkt Kaffee, isst ein Eis und fährt dann wieder heim. Sehr beschaulich alles.

Auf dem Weg zurück nach Senden halte ich dann noch in Rot an der Rot, dass wieder ein Kloster hat. Das war eine „Reichsabtei“ im ausgehenden Mittelalter und dort waren auch Prämonstratenser. Die Kirche ist eigentlich schon Klassizismus. Der Schmuck innen ist allerdings noch sehr barock. Die Kirche ist bekannt für den Wendepunkt zwischen Klassizismus und Barock. Nun aber nach Hause…
