Der Nationalfriedhof in Arlington, direkt gegenüber des Potomac von Washington, gehört zu den wenigen Friedhöfen, die wir uns anschauen wollen. Man ist ja eigentlich nicht gerne auf Friedhöfen, aber den ein oder anderen kann man schon mal besuchen. Hier liegen einige Kennedys, allen voran John F. und in der hügeligen Landschaft entwickeln die sehr streng und regelmäßgen, insbesondere, Militärgräber eine ganz eigene Stimmung bzw. Art. Aus Filmen ist das immer wieder bekannt. Wenn man selbst mitten drin steht ist es schon ein wenig schauerlich. Ähnliche Gräber kennen wir aus der Normandie, wo auch endlose Reihen von weissen Steinen stehen.
Etwas erhöht steht das Denkmal bzw. Grab des unbekannten Soldaten. Hier patroliert ein Soldat rund um die Uhr im Steckschritt. Die Gestik und Mimik ist schon sehr „heavy“, insbesondere wenn 200 Japaner und sonstige Besucher um einen herumtänzeln stelle ich mir das für den armen Soldaten schwierig vor.
